1. Controlled Substances Policy
Medivive prioritizes patient safety and legal compliance when prescribing medications. Medivive does not prescribe controlled substances, including narcotics, benzodiazepines, and stimulants, through telehealth unless allowed by state-specific regulations. In states where telehealth laws permit, controlled substances may be prescribed only under strict protocols, which include in-person evaluations or collaboration with local providers.
2. General Prescription Policy
Medivive provides prescriptions based solely on the clinical judgment of our licensed providers after a thorough telehealth consultation. Not all consultations will result in a prescription, as prescriptions are issued only when medically appropriate.
Medivive strictly follows state and federal regulations governing telehealth prescriptions to ensure safety and legal compliance.
3. Medication Limitations
Medivive adheres to strict guidelines when prescribing medications through telehealth.
- Controlled Substances: Medivive does not prescribe controlled substances, including narcotics, benzodiazepines, and stimulants, unless state regulations allow it. Even where permitted, controlled substances are prescribed only after an in-person evaluation or collaboration with local providers.
- Medication Restrictions: Other medications requiring in-person monitoring or specialized tests will not be prescribed via telehealth. If your condition requires such medication, your provider will recommend appropriate in-person care.
4. Prescription Renewals and Refills
Medivive provides prescription renewals and refills based on regular assessments and follow-up consultations.
- Refills: Refills are only provided for medications initially prescribed by Medivive providers. External prescriptions will not be renewed without a full consultation.
- Follow-Up Consultations: Certain medications, particularly those for chronic conditions, require regular check-ins to monitor their effectiveness and safety.
- Suspension of Refills: If you miss follow-up appointments or fail to comply with testing, your medication refills may be suspended until proper evaluations are conducted.
5. Patient Responsibilities
Patients using Medivive telehealth services agree to the following:
- Full Disclosure: Patients must provide accurate and complete information about their medical history, symptoms, and current medications. Failure to disclose essential information may prevent safe and effective care.
- Proper Medication Usage: Medications must be taken as prescribed. Sharing, selling, or misuse of medications will result in the immediate termination of services and may lead to legal action.
- Non-Compliance Consequences: Non-compliance with treatment recommendations, including missing follow-ups or disregarding medication instructions, may result in the discontinuation of services and denial of prescription renewals.
6. Lab Testing and Medication Monitoring
Medivive emphasizes the importance of lab testing to ensure safe and effective medication use.
- Lab Testing Requirements: For certain medications, such as those affecting hormone levels or metabolic conditions, lab tests may be required to monitor their impact and ensure they are working as intended.
- Lab Results Monitoring: Your provider will review lab results and may adjust your treatment plan based on these findings. Failure to complete required lab tests may lead to temporary suspension of medication refills until the necessary data is received.
7. Prescription Delivery and Fulfillment
Medivive offers flexible options for receiving your prescriptions as a cash-pay service.
- Mailed Delivery: Certain medications, such as compounded prescriptions, can be mailed directly to your home. Delivery timelines vary depending on your location.
- Local Pharmacy Pickup: E-prescriptions may be sent to your chosen pharmacy for pickup. It is the patient’s responsibility to ensure accurate pharmacy information is provided during the consultation.
8. Cash-Pay and Insurance Reimbursement
Medivive is a cash-pay telehealth provider. All consultation and medication costs must be paid at the time of service.
- Reimbursement Requests: Although Medivive does not process insurance claims, patients may request an itemized receipt to submit to their insurance provider. Medivive cannot guarantee reimbursement.
9. Diagnostic Tests and Referrals
For conditions requiring further diagnostics or in-person evaluation, Medivive will refer you to local healthcare providers or facilities.
- Referrals: If additional in-person testing or specialized care is required, your provider will refer you to an appropriate healthcare facility or specialist for evaluation.
- Collaboration with Local Providers: In some cases, Medivive providers may collaborate with local healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
10. Medication Safety and Side Effects
Patients must report any side effects or adverse reactions immediately. For life-threatening reactions, patients must contact 911 or seek emergency care at the nearest emergency room.
Medivive does not serve as an emergency contact. For non-life-threatening concerns:
- Report Side Effects: Notify your Medivive provider of any side effects during your follow-up consultations. Your provider may adjust your medication or dosage based on your symptoms.
11. Provider Protections and Non-Liability
Medivive healthcare providers exercise professional judgment when prescribing medications, and patients agree to the following:
- Provider Discretion: Medivive providers reserve the right to refuse any prescription request if they believe it is not in the best interest of the patient’s health.
- Non-Liability: Medivive and its healthcare providers are not liable for negative outcomes resulting from patients failing to follow medical advice, provide accurate medical history, or misuse their medications.
12. Prescription Fraud and Abuse
Medivive enforces a zero-tolerance policy for prescription fraud or abuse. Any attempt to obtain medications under false pretenses will result in immediate termination of services and may be reported to law enforcement authorities.
13. Compliance with State and Federal Laws
Medivive strictly complies with state and federal regulations regarding telehealth prescriptions. This includes adherence to the Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act, which governs the prescription of controlled substances and other medications through telehealth.
14. Prescription Reimbursement and Prior Authorization
For certain medications, prior authorization may be required by your insurance provider. As a cash-pay service, Medivive does not handle prior authorizations directly but can provide necessary documentation to assist in the process.
- Patient Responsibility: It is the patient’s responsibility to work with their insurance provider regarding prior authorizations and reimbursement requests.
15. Prescription Cancellations or Modifications
Once a prescription has been issued, it cannot be canceled. If dosage changes or medication adjustments are necessary, a follow-up consultation will be required to make the appropriate changes.
16. Emergency Protocols
Medivive is not an emergency care provider, and in the event of a medical emergency, patients are instructed to:• Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.
- Contact the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 for poisoning-related emergencies.
- For non-life-threatening crises, contact your local urgent care center or visit the nearest emergency room.
17. Changes to Prescription Policies
Medivive reserves the right to modify or update this prescription policy at any time to reflect changes in telehealth regulations, state or federal laws, or patient safety protocols. Patients are encouraged to review this policy regularly.
